The Origins
"Li Chiani"
In the local dialect, “Li Chiani” refers to flat land mainly characterized by exposed rock.
In this area, farmers once reclaimed the land by clearing away the stones to make it fertile and suitable for planting the region’s typical native crops, such as prickly pears, grapevines, olive trees, capers, and more.
The stone removed from the fields was then used to build the traditional architecture of Lower Salento, including pajare, lamioni, and dry-stone walls.
Villa LiChiani was built in the early 1980s and was used mainly during the summer, allowing the owners to enjoy a well-deserved period of rest.
The Renovation
In 2017, during the year dedicated to sustainable tourism, Villa Li Chiani underwent a major restyling that gave the home a modern design while remaining true to local and Mediterranean tradition. This is how iChiani - Charming & Sustainable Holidays was born.
The 2017 renovation focused on energy regeneration and environmental sustainability. The project’s CasaClima certification (protocol 2017/01278) documented its energy performance and comfort at that time.

iChiani - Charming & Sustainable Holidays stands along Via Leucadensis, the ancient “Way of Forgiveness.” Since the Middle Ages, pilgrims from many different places have traveled this road across the Salento peninsula to reach the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Leuca “De Finibus Terrae.”
